JANELLE MONÁE HEADLINES REVERB’S FALL 2011 'CAMPUS CONSCIOUSNESS TOUR'

Blog

  • September 7th, 2011 – Portland, Maine – Janelle Monáe, the Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, producer and performer, and one of today’s hottest emerging artistic entrepreneurs with her own record label known as The Wondaland Arts Society, has signed on to headline the seventh biannual Campus Consciousness Tour (CCT).

“I love the idea of bringing more of an overall experience onto college campuses,” says Janelle Monáe. “CCT has the right formula by combining music and activism and delivering it in a fun and appealing way to students around the country. I look forward to being a part of this unique tour.”

The (15) date college tour runs from October 1st to October 22nd, visiting campuses along the East Coast and Midwest with a message of environmental sustainability. The fall CCT will focus specifically on sustainable food and water for all.

The Brita FilterForGood Music Project will present the Campus Consciousness Tour this fall. The Music Project works with fans and artists to make concerts more sustainable by reducing plastic bottled water waste. CCT concert-goers can stop by the Brita FilterForGood Music Project tent to fill up a reusable bottle with free Brita® filtered water, play games and win prizes, and learn more about Brita FilterForGood’s student programs. Indie pop band, fun., will be playing before Ms. Monáe on most tour dates as well as supporting the CCT daytime activities by performing a free acoustic set at a central location on each campus. The band is hard at work a new album for Fueled By Ramen set for release next year. Stay tuned to www.ournameisfun.com for more information.

The Eco-Village present at each concert will highlight student environmental organizations and national non-profit groups including Oxfam’s GROW campaign, Fair Trade University, and the Non-GMO Project. Students will be given numerous opportunities to take action on campus during the day and at the shows that night.

Long-time tour partners and supporters Ben & Jerry’s and Silk will also take part. Ben & Jerry’s will be sampling their ice cream made with environmentally friendly practices and fair trade sourced ingredients at select shows. Silk will also be onsite at every show giving students the opportunity to taste delicious Silk Soy Milk and Silk Chocolate Almond Milk. Their entire line of products are certified Non-GMO.

In addition, Ms. Monáe will be joined on the tour by two dynamic acts from her very own innovative record label, the Wondaland Arts Society: the punk prophets Deep Cotton and the rock n’ soul singer Roman GianArthur. These artists will all play select dates of the tour along with another group close to Ms. Monáe’s heart: the LA-based soul trio known as King. Taking cues from their friend and mentor Prince, Ms. Monáe and The Wondaland Arts Society acts have plans to have after-party shows and jam sessions, as well as “flash concerts” on college campuses throughout the tour. According to Ms. Monáe, these opening acts were chosen because she truly believed in their artistry: “I’m really excited about the opening acts for this tour! I’m a huge fan of Deep Cotton and Roman GianArthur—they’re simply going to change the world! Look out! And fun. is a great band, I’ve collaborated with them on their new album, and they’re amazing as well! And the first time I heard King their music gave me goosebumps. I love it when I hear a girl group beautifully harmonizing in a pure soulful way. It’s time for some real soul and rock n’ roll again.”

    Fall Campus Consciousness Tour Dates:

October 1 – University of Rochester
    October 2 – Cornell University
    October 3 – Clark University

On the campus consciousness tour website, it states that the October 3rd concert will be held at Clark University, which is located in Worcester, MA. However, on the tour section of jmonae.com, the location is noted to be held in Atlanta. Just wanted to point out the discrepancy and hope it will be in MA because I live in Boston and would not miss this opportunity to see Ms. Monae perform!!!
